STUDENT COUNCIL REGULATIONS

Objective:

Objectives of the council shall be to serve the student community in following ways:

  • To develop and provide opportunities for leadership and service in the institution as well as in the community.
  • To foster fellow feeling and disciplined way of life among the students of the institution.
  • To promote intellectual and cultural life awareness, mental and physical health and building of character.
  • To maintain peaceful & uninterrupted activities of the institution.
  • To encourage students to participate in various Academics, Curricular, Co & Extra Curricular Activities of the Institution.
  • To work for equality, secularism & socio-economic progress.
  • To cooperate in making the educational system more responsive to the students of the institution.
  • To undertake any activity that may be deemed beneficial for enriching the overall life of the students in the institution.
Role of the Student Council:
  • To officially represent all the students in the institute.
  • To identify & help solve problems encountered by students in the institute.
  • To communicate its opinion to the institute administration on any subject that concerns student and on which the council wishes to be consulted.
  • To promote and encourage the involvement of student in organizing institute activities.
Responsibilities of the Student Council:
  • To promote the interests of students among the Institute administration, staff and parents.
  • To inform students about any subject that concerns them
  • To identify and help solve problems encountered by students in the Institute.
  • To consult students on any issue of importance.
  • To organize educational and recreational activities for students.
  • To participate in developing the Institute’s educational projects and to promote it to students
  • To organize an activity to recognize the efforts of students involved in organizing Institute activities.
Constitution:
  • The Student Council shall be apex for student affairs and shall function under the Principal and Chairmanship of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Director.
  • The institute Student Council shall have a Standing Committee. The Standing Committee shall be selected by the norms.
  • The institute Student Council shall constitute an associated Subcommittee of the Standing Committee to plan & oversee specific Council activities.
Standing Committees:

The Student Council shall create and administer various committees consistent with the purpose of the Student Council. The Standing Committees and constituent are as follows.

  • Academic Council committee
  • Sports committee
  • Cultural committee
  • Community Engagement committee
  • Women Empowerment cell
  • Health and Hygiene committee
  • R& D Committee
  • Anti-ragging Committee
Mode of selection:

Principal of the institution assign a members of the Student Council in the manner prescribed.

  • 15 students shall be nominated for the Student Councilin the prescribed manner.
  • 3 Students from each department shall be nominated by the Head of the Department, based on the academic and extracurricular activities.
  • The principal of the institution interact with the nominated candidate and assign the representative bodies of the Student Council.
  • 4. The following shall be representative bodies of the institution Student Council
    • President
    • Vice President
    • Secretary
    • Program Representatives of Standing Committees
The role of the Representative Student Bodies

President: The President shall have the general responsibility for the coordinating the activities of the Student Council and for directing and overseeing the response to the affairs of the student body.

  • To act as official spokesperson for the council in its relation with the students and the institute administration.
  • Lead all meetings.
  • Act as a facilitator during discussion.
  • Maintain frequent contact with faculty and administration.
  • Work with advisor on all planning.
  • To represent the students on official occasions.
  • To supervise the tasks of the council members.
Vice President:

The Vice-President steps in when the President is unavailable to preside over meetings or to meet with other students or faculty.

  • Work closely with President.
  • Assume President’s duties when needed.
  • Assist the President in preparing meeting agendas
  • Participate in Student Council sponsored activities/events..
Secretary:

The Secretary shall be responsible for recording the minutes and acting as official time keeper of all Student Council meetings.

  • Keep student body informed of events, fundraisers, and service projects.
  • Responsible for gathering student feedback outside of the Council.
  • Help maintain Student Council files.
  • Report to Announcements Team events and meeting information.
Program Representatives:

Each Program Representative shall serve as the direct link between their respective Standing Committee and the Student Council.

  • Responsible for hosting at least one meeting per semester.
  • Shall organize at least one social, educational or career-related event per semester.
  • Shall host monthly official hours for their constituent base to field concerns or suggestions.
